Long-distance skate

Långfärdsskridskor är en av de populärare aktiviteterna i Friluftsfrämjandets regi.
Kristinehamn is an ideal base for long distance ice skating trips. Small lakes in the area, e.g. Markvattnet, freeze over quickly in the winter and offer early skating. The part of Lake Vänern around Kristinehamn’s archipelago freezes over later on in the season, and provides many interesting destinations for long distance ice skaters. Great long distance ice skating trips can also be experienced on and around the Bergslags Canal (Bergslagskanalen), a system of interconnected lakes and canals reaching from Karlskoga in the south to Filipstad in the north. Beginners and experienced skaters enjoy this wonderful activity that suits the old and young alike.

Ever since its started up in 1997, "Friluftsfrämjandet", which is the national society for the promotion of outdoor activities, has had around 20 days( Saturdays and Sundays) of long distance ice-skating each winter. This just goes to show just what a fantastic skating area Kristinehamn is. Long distance ice-skating is great fun!
